Welcome to Oldbury Tours.
Oldbury Tours provide private tours of Avebury and Stonehenge and much, much more. The Avebury and Stonehenge UNESCO World Heritage Site includes many other ancient monuments that can be included on a tour. We also visit medieval castles, abbeys and cathedrals all with fascinating stories to tell as well as bustling market towns and unspoilt villages.
This part of England contains some of the UK’s most beautiful countryside making the drive between sites an equally enjoyable part of the day. Several world class museums, classic English pubs and fabulous restaurants means the options are almost endless. Whatever you choose to see you will spend the day with your own fully licensed and insured driver guide.
Half day, full day and multiple day tours are available.
Customised car and minibus tours.
With our wealth of experience and local knowledge we will create the perfect day for you.
Oldbury Tours’ seven seat cars provide ample space for single travellers, groups of friends or small families, but can also negotiate the smallest country lanes. For a larger group we do have a minibus available.
What else do we visit?
As fully licensed private hire drivers we can take you anywhere within the area. We often get asked to include special places not on our most regular routes. These have included the towns and cities of Glastonbury, Wells, Marlborough, Malmesbury and Bath; Wiltshire villages including the filming locations of Lacock, Castle Combe and Corsham; the Cotswolds; Uffington White Horse and Wiltshire white horses, Old Wardour, Farleigh Hungerford and Chepstow Castles; and much more.
Multi-day tours
If you are staying in the area for several days we can organise multiple day trips to give you a more complete experience. We can perhaps focus on the prehistoric sites of Stonehenge and Avebury one day and the villages and medieval towns the next. Everything is possible so please just ask via email or the enquiry form.
Have a look at our gallery for inspiration and then ask us what is possible!
Your Guide
Your guide for the day will be Laurence, a Wiltshire local with a BA in archaeology and classical studies. Laurence started Oldbury Tours in 2014 and never tires of showing people around his home county of Wiltshire. Laurence holds a licence to operate from Wiltshire Council and is fully insured.
In June 2016 Laurence was approached by Visit England to show Rick Steves , the American presenter and writer, around Avebury and Stonehenge and to check over his script for his Great Britain guide book.

About Our ToursFree Solstice and Equinox visits to Stonehenge.
Here is a short video we took at the Winter Solstice at Stonehenge in 2018. It was celebrated at dawn on 22nd December. On four days of the year English Heritage who own and manage the site allow ‘managed free access’ within the stone circle. It is great fun to visit on these occasions and lap up the festival atmosphere. Everyone is there for their own reasons and yours is as valid as anyone else’s. The four free access days are the Spring Equinox, the Summer Solstice, the autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. Let us know and we can help you organise your visit.
Contact UsHikes
For the more energetic our guided tours can include various hikes in the area as the UNESCO World Heritage Site is criss-crossed with by-ways and footpaths.. It is also crossed by some major long distance routes such as The Ridgeway National Trail, The White Horse Trail and The Great Stones Way which links Avebury and Stonehenge.
There are a few sites that only a hike will get you to so if you want to see them, you just have to walk.

Commonly Visited Locations in our Tours
Globally significant collections
To compliment the wealth of prehistoric monuments in the landscape we are incredibly fortunate to have one of Europe’s finest collections of prehistoric artefacts. It is split between two very recently modernised museums. A forty minute visit to the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes or The South Wiltshire Museum in Salisbury is easily included in your tour and is extremely worthwhile.
The Keiller Museum in Avebury is also excellent as is the new visitor centre at Stonehenge.
Local Tourism Partners
Oldbury Tours is promoted and recommended by the leading local tourism bodies. We are also ambassadors for the Great West Way project which launched on 22nd November 2018.
The Great West Way is England’s first designated tourist route and we are very excited to be involved in this project from the start. The aim of the project is to encourage people to enjoy the route between London and Bristol. It is a route that contains an unparalleled selection of the best that good old England has to offer. So please don’t rush, but take a little more time on your journey.
We are perfectly placed to help you enjoy the whole section that passes through Wiltshire from Hungerford to Bath.

Junus – the two faced month

Numerous including Stonehenge and the surrounding area, Avebury area, Uffington White Horse, Waylands Smithy, Littlecote House
I have always understood that the month of January was named after Janus, the two-faced Roman God. It is a good choice; one face looks back saying goodbye to the recently passed year while the other looks to the future. But June? I have never heard of Junus!
